Staff Strike in Palatine

Education Support Professionals (ESPs) have been ON STRIKE as of 5 AM October 16 in Palatine!

Fellow educators were on the picket line at 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at both Winston Campus Elementary and Junior High Schools (900 E. Palatine Road) and Baker’s Square (270 E. Northwest Highway) in Palatine.

The ESPs are making on average, $11,000 a year and are asking for a 2.5% raise. The 454 members of the Educational Support Personnel Association (ESPA) are on strike following marathon negotiations at the table with no significant movement from the Community Consolidated District 15 School Board. ESPA represents secretaries, clericals, classroom aides, nurses, and sign language interpreters in Community Consolidated School District 15 in Palatine. They have been working without a contract since July 1, 2017. ESPA President Angie Drazkowski notes:

“Our members work with the most vulnerable students in the district and also happen to be among the lowest paid. We believe asking for a 2.5 percent salary increase is a humble request,” ESPA President Angie Drazkowski said, “Those extra dollars will help ensure talented individuals continue to work within District 15 providing a better future for our students and our community.”

If at all possible, find a way to come out and show your solidarity with striking District 15 staff.
